This page defines the device retirement policy for WundermentOS Mobile. Once a device has been retired, all builds will cease and existing builds will be removed.
When a device falls out of official support, it is for one of three reasons:
- The device no longer supports custom verified boot keys. This can happen if the vendor removes support from the device with a new Android version or other software update. For example, Oneplus removed custom key support with Android/OxygenOS 12 and newer.
- The device is no longer officially supported by LineageOS. All WundermentOS builds are based upon LineageOS, as such, if the device is no longer officially supported by LineageOS, then it will no longer be supported for WundermentOS as well.
- The vendor no longer provides security updates. Vendors often only support 2 or 3 years of security updates for devices. Once the vendor no longer supports the phone, official WundermentOS support will also be dropped.
Once one of the three above criteria are met, these devices will be moved from “supported” to “deprecated” with respect to WundermentOS.
Once a device has been deprecated, builds will be retired for the devices when one of the following conditions occur (subject to change at any time):
- A device with custom key support is no longer supported on the latest, or second to latest LineageOS version. For example, WundermentOS for the Oneplus 9 is current building with LineageOS 18.1, as that is the version that matches Android 11 and can still support custom keys. However LineageOS 20.0 is the current version of LineageOS. LineageOS 18.1 is no longer be the latest or second latest version of LineageOS and WundermentOS builds will be terminated.
- A device that is on a version of Android that is no longer receiving platform security patches from LineageOS. For example, if LineageOS was to stop backporting security patches to Lineage 18.1 now that LineageOS 20 has been released, then any WundermentOS device builds still on 18.1 would be terminated.
- At any given time, WundermentOS builds will only be created for at most the 3 latest versions of LineageOS. Any device still on an older version of LineageOS that otherwise would have WundermentOS builds created for it will be retired. For example, the Oneplus 7/7 Pro are currently on LineageOS 18.1, if they remain at that level and are not promoted to a newer version of LineageOS, then once LineageOS 20.0 comes out, builds will continue. However, if they are not moved forward after that, then when the release after LineageOS 20.0 comes out, builds will be terminated.
