The update for Wunderment OS to LineageOS 18.1 is now available from the download server! Unlike the last major version update for WundermentOS, this release requires no special update process as long as you are on the current release of WundermentOS 17.1 (the 2021-04-29 release or newer). Just go to the built in updater via Settings->System->Advanced->Updater and download/install it! However, like any major update, make sure to backup any data you have on your phone before performing the update just in case. As an extra precaution you may want to enable the OEM unlock feature in developers options in case something goes wrong and you need to restore to a previous operating system via recovery. Lineage 18.1 brings Android 11 goodness to WundermentOS, however there is one big loss in the upgrade, the built in Mail program. Mail was removed from LineageOS 18.1 due to lack of updates from the…

Unfortuantly, as we move further away from the release of a phone, the vendor provides less and less support until they finally stop providing any updates. We have reached that point late last year for the OnePlus 5T and as such, WundermentOS has now moved in to a deprecated state for this device. What does that mean? Builds will continue to be created for the device, but without vendor support, no new security patches for the proprietary blobs will be included. Builds will continue to include security updates that are published in the monthly AOSP security bulletins. Future major updates (like to Android 12) may or may not become available depending upon LineageOS support for those updates as well as if they are secure (aka SELinux enforcing enabled). Installation guides and videos will not be updated. So what should you do? If possible, upgrade your phone to a newer device…

UnifiedNlp is part of the microG project and provides location services to Android from various proivders. As WundermentOS has, until this time, only provided GPS location services, the addition of UnifiedNlp is useful when GPS is not available, or for aquiring aproximate location details faster than GPS can provide. The UnfiedNlp service will included in the May release of WundermentOS, however if you wish to use any of the location providers, you’ll have to download them from F-Droid. From the UnfiedNlp github page: UnifiedNlp alone does not provide any features, but acts as a middleware for multiple backends. Most of them can be downloaded and updated usingĀ F-Droid. Here is a list of backends known to me. List of backends for geolocation: AppleWifiNlpBackend – Uses Apple’s service to resolve Wi-Fi locations. It has excellent coverage but the database is proprietary. OpenWlanMapNlpBackend – Uses OpenWlanMap.org to resolve user location but the NLP backend did…

We’re always looking for more updates to make WundermentOS even better, more secure and more private. As such, the May builds of WundermentOS will have an update that replaces the default Google NTP servers with pool.ntp.org.
